Indiana Apostille FAQs

(Same-Day Service in Indianapolis)

1. What is an apostille and why would I need one in Indiana?

An apostille is a certificate issued by the Indiana Secretary of State that makes your document valid for use in another country. You’ll need one if you’re sending birth certificates, marriage records, school diplomas, powers of attorney, or business documents overseas.

2. Can I get an Indiana apostille the same day?

Yes! At Signature Move Notary Services, I hand-deliver your documents to the Indiana Secretary of State in downtown Indianapolis and return them to you the same day. No waiting weeks by mail.

3. Which documents can be apostilled in Indiana?

Common documents include:

  • Birth, marriage, and death certificates

  • Divorce decrees

  • Powers of attorney and estate planning documents

  • Diplomas and school transcripts

  • Adoption paperwork

  • Corporate and business records

4. Can my document be in Spanish or another language?

Yes. The document can stay in Spanish (or another language). The only requirement is that the notarial certificate (the part with the stamp and wording) must be in English under Indiana law.

5. Do I need to notarize my document before getting an apostille?

Some official records like vital records and court documents are already certified and don’t need notarization. Others, such as a Power of Attorney or school diploma, must be notarized first by an Indiana notary.

6. How much does it cost to get an apostille in Indiana?

The Indiana Secretary of State charges $2 per apostille. My fee covers same-day delivery, notarization (if needed), and return of your documents. Most families use my flat-rate Indiana Apostille Package, which covers up to 3 documents for one simple price.

7. How long does it take to get an apostille in Indiana?

By mail it can take 2–3 weeks. With my same-day service, you can have your apostille in hand today.

8. Can you help if I live outside Indiana but need an Indiana apostille?

Yes. You can ship your documents to me from anywhere in the U.S. I’ll hand-deliver them for the apostille and return them with priority shipping.

9. What’s the difference between an Indiana apostille and a federal apostille?

An Indiana apostille is for Indiana-issued or Indiana-notarized documents. A federal apostille comes from the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. and is required for federal documents like FBI background checks.

10. Can I apostille a copy of my document, or does it have to be the original?

Vital records and court documents must be certified originals. For some other documents (like diplomas or letters), a notarized copy certification by an Indiana notary may be acceptable. I’ll review your document and let you know the exact requirement.

11. Do I need a translation for my apostilled document?

The Indiana Secretary of State will apostille the document as it is, even if it’s in Spanish. But some foreign countries may require a certified translation along with the apostille. If needed, I can connect you with a certified translator.

12. How do I get an Indiana birth certificate apostilled?

You’ll need a certified copy from the Indiana Department of Health or your county health department. Once you have the certified copy, I can take it directly to the Secretary of State and return it the same day with an apostille.

13. Can a Power of Attorney (POA) be apostilled in Indiana?

Yes. A Power of Attorney can be apostilled if it has been notarized correctly by an Indiana notary using the required English notarial wording. Once notarized, I’ll hand-deliver it for apostille.
